What this site is

These pages set out, in general terms, how asphalt driveways and parking lots are built, the particular ways they fail in central Virginia, and the order in which work on them is usually sequenced. The site also introduces Richmond-area owners to an asphalt contractor working this metro.

Background, not advice

None of this is engineering opinion, legal opinion, or a prediction of how any particular authority will treat any particular property. It describes how this kind of work generally proceeds, which is not the same thing as a recommendation for your site.

Soils, drainage, permitting practice and accessibility requirements all vary, and the body with jurisdiction over a property is the only authority on its own rules. Nothing written here should stand in for an assessment of your own property or advice from somebody engaged on your project.

Why there are no figures

No page on this site carries a price and none should be inferred from anything on it. What a job costs is settled by the contractor after they have walked the property, because that is the first point at which the question can be answered honestly.

Errors

These pages are written carefully and checked, but practice changes and mistakes get through. Point one out and it will be put right.
